Mouthpieces come in a wide range of variety, so it is important to try as many as possible until you find the one for you. This does not necessarily mean to go for expensive ones but you should not be mean when choosing your clarinet mouthpiece.
Western players who mostly use clarinet in classical or band music, prefer shorter and closer mouthpieces with reed thickness above number 1½.
Eastern players use clarinet mostly in folk music and prefer longer mouthpieces with larger opening tips. They also use reeds which are no thicker than number 1. On most occasions they make their number 1 reed even thinner by sandpapering it to get that buzzy sound we always hear in Eastern folk music.
